Living in Silicon Valley, I have had the pleasure of meeting some of the most interesting people from all walks of life. About 13 years ago, I met Peter Diamandes, a fascinating visionary who is committed to opening the space frontier to everyone. In our conversation, Peter assured me that there WILL be private space flights in my life time. Thanks to the brain power of Elon Musk, the co-creator of Pay Pal, it appears that that ‘step for mankind’ has been taken! May 26th’s installment of the Wall Street Journal Sentiment Tracker took a look at the social media response on Facebook and Twitter to the first privatized trip into space.  76% of the conversation showed that people are enthralled and excited at the prospect of space travel, with another 22% of the chatter attributed to tracking the news and staying on top of updates on the maiden voyage of the SpaceX capsule. The final 2% made jokes about this incredible advancement – but I thought such a momentous occasion merited looking at more of the excited chatter, check them out below:

The SpaceX Dragon has successfully launched. America is now back in space.

Looks like #spacex had a successful launch. This is history being made in realtime, people.

I am genuinely excited about SpaceX’s launch today. We need to encourage America to dream, regardless of the company name on the vehicle.

Did you track the SpaceX launch? Let me know in the comments!
