Brand Passion Index: Wendy’s Brings Home the Buzz on Bacon

For those of you who ate an overload of turkey in celebration of Thanksgiving this past week, you are probably sick of turkey soup, turkey pot pie, turkey sandwiches, turkey anything. And if you’ve also been in the throes of shopping (psst, check out the Holiday Mood Meter to see which retailers are delivering consumer happiness this season!), I’m sure you’re opting for easy meals not including turkey these days. So this week’s Brand Passion Index looks at a meal that is equal parts easy, comforting and delicious: burgers! We looked at these burger brands: Big Mac (McDonald’s), Whopper (Burger [...]

Food, Folks and Fat: WSJ Sentiment Tracker by NetBase

With sushi and salad as my favorite go-to meals, I don’t have a lot of appreciation for fast food and the unhealthy options they provide. That being said, the announcement this past week that McDonald’s is debuting a menu with calorie counts next to each item doesn’t affect me directly. Calorie count or not, I would rather eat pretty much anywhere else. However, I was interested to see the response from the social media universe: the September 15th installment of the Wall Street Journal Sentiment Tracker found that 66% of Facebook and Twitter users think it’s a good idea. Maybe [...]

Brand Passion Index: Starbucks Roasts the Competition

I have been a coffee enthusiast for years and combining that with my love of travel has led me to some truly delicious brews: Turkish coffee in Turkey, a dark and sweet roast in Greece, a macchiato in Italy and a creamy café au lait in France. The hardest part of being pregnant with my kids was going off caffeine for six straight years, so I had to become a devout decaf drinker instead. When I was still a New Yorker, nothing was better than a cup of Dunkin’ Donuts coffee on the run, but now that I’m a Californian, [...]

Brand Passion Index: KFC Gets Online Consumers Clucking

One of my favorite lunchtime meals (aside from sushi – I’m a serious sucker for raw fish) has always been a healthy salad with chicken – but definitely not of the fast food variety. As I covered in my blog post a couple of weeks ago on pancakes, fast food restaurants have just never been my go-to for a quick and easy meal. However, in the sixth installment of the “What Women Want” BPI series on top chicken brands, I found that I may be the only Twitter/Facebook/social media user who doesn’t love a good fast food run for a [...]

Brand Passion Index: IHOP Stacks Up the Buzz

I love pancakes for breakfast (and dinner – or as my hip kids call it, “brinner”) – but only when I make them. When weekend mornings aren’t too crazy, whipping up a batch of fresh banana-and-chocolate-chip pancakes for my kids is the perfect Sunday activity. My husband, on the other hand, loves IHOP and is a diehard fan for McDonald’s pancakes (opposites attract, right?), and I can usually guarantee that if I’m out of town, a trip to IHOP is in order. My husband’s not big on tweeting out his breakfast preferences, but as this week’s fourth installment of the [...]
