I’ve had some back trouble in the past year and was thinking about getting a new mattress, so I decided to do a ConsumerBase analysis of the Tempur-Pedic brand. I wanted to see what other people thought of the mattress before I made the purchase.
In the past, I would have asked friends, and maybe one person would have owned a Tempur-Pedic and could have told me. Now, with social media, I can basically ask the world and find lots of people who own Tempur-Pedics—much better than just asking friends.
By the way, not everyone thinks that. I came across this presentation on SlideShare that asserts people only ask their friends for product recommendations. I disagree with that; just consider my own mattress-shopping example. Had I relied only on my friends, I wouldn’t have gotten very far, because most of them don’t own a Tempur-Pedic. To get a range of opinions and recommendations, not just on mattresses but on many other products, I therefore have to expand my social network to everyone on social media.
Expensive, Yes; A Problem? Not Necessarily
The most prominent theme in the positive category of research results was that people find the Tempur-Pedic has the best memory foam. Drilling down into that insight shows the benefits of that feature to be great support and the ability reduce pressure points. Another major positive—highly relevant for me—is that the mattress relieves back pain.
Some standout negative themes were the temperature issue (apparently the mattresses retain heat and get warm), firmness (some people find them too hard) and, most prominently, the cost—people find it expensive. But that has a nifty correlation on the positive side, where a strong positive theme in the results is “expensive but worth it.”

Here are some positive responses I found interesting.
You need to have a high quality mattress to give ergonomic support. Memory foam mattress has firm elasticity and density to support the spine and the most famous name in memory foam is Tempur Pedic. Tempur Pedic is recognized as the best memory foam product for spine health. It is designed to give the best ergonomic support and comfort to our body. However, Tempur Pedic mattress has premium price that is hard to afford. (source)
It’s been a couple of months now and everything seems to be fine still with the bed. They gave us $25 “play money” but I can’t imagine ever finding anything in that store for less than $25. Tempur-pedics are expensive but I have sleeping problems so to me a good bed is a must have. I definitely do not regret buying the bed and it was worth every dime for me. I said it wasn’t wheelchair accessible bc while they do have an easy way to enter the business everything is so packed inside I can’t imagine ever being able to actually shop in a wheelchair. The coils are installed with alternating right-turn and left-turn pattern on the mattress to offer optimum body support. What makes the Jamison another one of the best mattress brands is the fact that it is priced a bit less than more popular brands such as Sealy and Simmons. When it comes to memory foams, Tempur-Pedic offers one of the best product lines in the market. Its products have been highly appreciated by many consumers, medical experts and chiropractors. Its mattresses offer optimum spinal support by relieving pressure points and distributing the user’s weight all over the mattress surface. (source)

Here are some representative negative comments.
I like a soft bed. The softer, the better. Tempur-pedics are hard as rocks. (source)
People either love or hate memory foam mattresses. They can make you feel hot while sleeping, and you need to know what type, 8 inch, 10 inch, firm or extra firm is right for you. I don’t think Tempur-pedic is worth the price premium over other quality memory beds just because of the name. If you aren’t worried about voiding a warranty don’t waste money on a matching platform, box, either. You can also find authentic Tempur-pedic mattresses online for much less, if you don’t mind buying a replacement cover if one has been returned in new condition. (source)
The memory foam and tempur-pedic matresses held too much body heat in for me, and my back would start to sweat. i sleep on my back mostly. (source)
