NetBase has an office located in New York City – and our NetBase New Yorkers like to eat. So who better to offer some insider’s tips on restaurants for those of you attending the ARF Re⁞Think conference?

Here are some recommendations by our NetBase New Yorkers of the best places to eat during your stay at the Big Apple.  If you have your own tips, share with others at ARF ReThink by tweeting #Rethink14Eats.

City Bakery (3 W 18th St [Flatiron]) – Great for breakfast or a snack.  Get the pretzel croissant and hot chocolate with homemade marshmallows.

Taim (222 Waverly Place [West Village] or 45 Spring St [Nolita]) – The place to go for vegetarian/kosher food.  Falafels!  That’s a fun word…falafel.

The Meatball Shop (84 Stanton St [Lower East Side]) – All meatballs, all the time.  Get an ice cream sandwich for dessert.

BarBacon (836 9th Ave [Hell’s Kitchen]) – Bar…Bacon…need I say more?

Boka (9 St Marks Pl [East Village]) – Have you ever had Korean Fried Chicken?  Didn’t think so.  You’re welcome.

Shake Shack (691 8th Ave) – A modern day “roadside” burger joint serving the most delicious burgers, hot dogs, frozen custard and more.  Get a double shack burger!

Caracas Arepas (91 E 7th St) – Arepas are Venezuelan grilled cornmeal cakes, stuffed with anything from cheese to meat to plantains.  Order a De Pabellón and squeeze on some of the spicy sauce on your table.

Veselka (144 2nd Ave) – Fantastic pierogi, borscht, and kielbasa at this Ukrainian diner.

Blue Smoke (116 E 27th St) – Ribs, pulled pork, and other great barbeque staples.  There’s also a jazz club downstairs.

Looking for those quintessential New York foods?  Here are a few places to check out:

Ess-A-Bagel (831 3rd Ave [Midtown East] or 359 1st Ave [Stuyvesant Town]) – Find out what a NYC bagel should taste like.

The Donut Pub (203 W 14th St [Chelsea]) – Get your donuts, black and white cookies and much more!

Joe’s Pizza (7 Carmine St [West Village]) – The authentic NY slice.  Also visited by actors such as Bill Murray, Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey.

Lombardi’s Pizza (32 Spring St [Nolita]) – Old school pizza.  America’s first pizzeria since 1905.

And for the beer lovers out there:

Beer Culture (328 W 45th St [Midtown West]) – Select from a wide variety of beers.  From the novice to the connoisseur, they can help you choose the right beer for you.

The Cannibal (113 E 29th St [Midtown East]) – The ideal place for your meat and beer appetite.

About This Post

To prepare for this year’s ARF conference, I used NetBase to glean insights about last year’s show. I dredged up complete history from Twitter’s firehose for mentions of ARF from 2013. After reviewing what people liked/disliked about the show, identifying key influencers, and analyzing the preferred hashtags, we wondered how many attendees were local vs. out of towners. So we did geolocation analysis of the people who tweeted last year. Based on their profile’s geolocation, we knew where they came from. It turned out only 35% of mentioners call New York home. So we thought we’d give the incoming attendees some suggestions based on where NetBasers love to eat on the island (my cousin moved to NY from CA and insists on calling it that).
